Ebola outbreak causing worldwide concerns
Over 1,000 people have now died in the worst Ebola outbreak in history. Many West African countries have been affected, including Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Liberia. Recently a case in Saudi Arabia has caused worldwide concern of Ebola’s potential spread. Spain is also treating one of its citizens for Ebola.
The United States involvement with this issue has also been controversial as complaints about the U.S. government’s involvement peaked with the decision to transfer two American patients from West Africa to Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
When asked her opinion about the major national powers and their involvement with Ebola, Sophomore Emilio de la Mora said, “Most major powers don’t care about what happens in West Africa as long as none of their citizens are sick. I mean the serum didn’t go to a random patient, it was sent specifically to the American aid workers. Anyway its far too expensive and risky to transport those who are infected.”
On Tuesday, August 19, both patients where released from Emory hospital. They were first to receive the a treatment that has yet to finish preliminary testing.
