McIntosh continues to excel academically, as shown by our recent rating by the Georgia Department of Education.

The Georgia Department of Education released a report card on all Georgia schools for the 2012-2013 school year on April 21, 2014. Fayette County overall received a high B while McIntosh High School scored 91.9 percent, beating the other high schools in the county.

The fact that McIntosh reigns as the top school in Fayette County is likely no surprise to many, considering the reputation we have for our academics. However, what may be a surprise is just how large our lead is.

Although the gap between MHS and the second-place Starrs Mill High School is small with SMHS’s 90.1 percent rating, MHS is 7.1 percent, 13.6 percent and 16.7 percent ahead of third, fourth and fifth place. That means that MHS has been rated on-average 9.8 percent higher than the rest of the county —  nearly a whole letter grade in difference.

What makes McIntosh excel at such a high level? According to senior Kevin Gotilla, its the high classroom standards. He said, “I think that McIntosh is a challenging school because it provides a variety of rigorous classes, and most classes have tough and thought-provoking coursework.”
