Atlanta Hawks Poetry Slam Contest invites students from McIntosh to participate

Elizabeth Quarles

The Atlanta Hawks and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights teamed up to host a poetry slam for local high school students. The intention of the poetry slam is help high school students express themselves through spoken word and have a chance to be heard.

The theme for this year’s poetry slam is non-discrimination, acceptance, and respect for others and why it matters to you. Students can submit their poem or a DVD of their performance for the opportunity to win an iPad, laptop, tablet notebook or Hawks autographed merchandise. The contest runs from Feb. 10 to March 14.

The requirements are simple: it must be original poetry, typed in text if it is a written submission, 200 words at a maximum or a maximum of 1 minute and 30 seconds for a video submission and not done as a group project. For more information please visit Mrs. Tibs in room 210.
