U.S legalization of marijuana rapidly spreading

The legalization and decriminalization of marijuana in the United States is spreading at a fast rate. Since the legalization of medical cannabis in California in 1996, many states started to follow suit, the newest being Kansas. On November 6, legislation was drafted to legalize, tax and regulate marijuana due to the popularity of a Kansas legalization group’s ad “Fire it up Kansas”. According to Procon.org, 21 of the 50 states have medical marijuana available, with two states, Washington and Colorado, having legal recreational marijuana use. Many states and districts like Kansas, Maine, Washington D.C. and California are pushing to legalize recreational marijuana use as well. In addition to the push by all state legislatures, according to Gallup Politics, 2013 is the first year that the majority of Americans favored the legalization of marijuana; over 58% of adults participating in an annual U.S survey said that they favored it. Acknowledging the conservative attitude of Georgia, many think it is highly unlikely that Georgia will ever decriminalize or legalize Marijuana, so Georgia high-school students shouldn’t get too excited.
