The results are in. After much hard work, three of our MHS Chiefs received awards for their projects in the statewide Tech Day Competition.
On Monday, October 8, a group of students from the Technology Student Association (TSA) traveled to Perry, GA, to compete with students from other schools in engineering-based challenges. The three MHS students from Mr. Singleton’s Architecture & Design class received awards for their submissions. Judges awarded 1st Place to Paul Giorgi, 3rd Place to Leah Slepian, and 4th Place to Katherine Gillanders out of 38 entries in the Architectural Design competition. All three projects were recognized on stage at the Competition; in addition, the projects were awarded a total of $175.00 in prize money for the McIntosh TSA Chapter.
The goal of this particular challenge was to design a suitable habitat for the human colonization of the planet Mars. The students thoroughly investigated the various elements that needed to be taken into account for this objective. A very proud Mr. Singleton said, “The students did extensive research on important factors such as Mars’ climate, atmosphere, and exposure to the sun’s radiation. It was a hard task with a lot of hard work, but they did a great job.”
The students’ award-winning designs will be on display at the Georgia National Fairgrounds until October 14.
