If you’re interested in the world of computer science, junior Keira Lee has made it easier to delve deeper into the code, the theories, and more, when it comes to computer programming.
“Computer Science is a lot of things, obviously, so it can involve theory, as well as application. So you have theory, like algorithms and computers basically, just different types of that, and how they work in real life,” Lee said.
Lee gives the difference from application and theory, and how they can be used.
“With application, you pull some of those theories and you use them like in programming, like Python, Java, even AI, that’s a big thing, now. You can also apply it into a very popular thing here, game design. A lot of people want to do video games, and so, you can also apply that programming knowledge, as well as other knowledge into game design that’s also part of CS,” Lee said.
Lee got started in programming young.
“A long time ago, I got into programming a little bit because everyone else was doing it. It’s kind of a trend,” Lee said.
Lee wasn’t sure if there would be an interest in such a club at McIntosh. She was sure there would be a very small audience.
“I didn’t even know if people would be interested in this. However, I did kind of hear from my grade that there were, like, some kids interested in [computer science], didn’t really have a place to practice it other than the drone team. So it was very surreal when I went in and there were like, fifteen, like, twenty people in there,” Lee said.
With the recent new principal, Mrs. Hammock, making a club can be tricky when most of the students and staff are focused on such a big change. But Lee had the virtue of patience, along with three friends to put this club together in the meantime.
“Last year, like around April/May, last year, I started talking with some people in my grade about it. And that was when I got some of my officers, like, Quinn, Andre, Richard, I got them involved, and they also wanted to start the club. But the thing was we would have started last year, except the principal is going to be changing, so we had to wait until this year to start it,” Lee said.
As Lee and her officers begin this club, Lee comes equipped with one goal this year, just like any club should.
“This year, I just want to see how many people go in. I want to teach everyone the basics,” Lee said.
Computer Science Club’s meetings are every Monday and Tuesday, the times at around 3:50 to 4:30. Mondays, they’re found in room 113, and Tuesdays in 103.
