Ms. Kelly McMahon’s sophomore gifted chemistry class tie-dyed tee-shirts for an educational hands-on learning experience about acids and bases on Friday, April 1. The students brought in their tee-shirts on Wednesday, March 30, and used rubber bands to create designs. Then, their tee-shirts were put in the base, a bucket of water, and soaked for over 24 hours before tie-dying.

When tie-dying, the dye represented the acid of the experiment. Students took their shirts home over break to allow time to let the color soak in. The students were instructed to wash and dry them to unveil their completed shirt.

This experiment gave students a hands-on lab allowing them to use their creativity to create their shirt.
