Student questions why there were no pies on Pi day
Mar 21, 2016

Pi day is celebrated every year on March 14. The Greek letter for pi is 3.14.
Pi day representing 3.14 takes place on March 14 every year. According to exploratorium.com, Pi was discovered by the ancient Babylonians who calculated “ the area of a circle by taking three times the square of its radius, giving the value of Pi.
The ancient Babylonians’ calculations signified Pi as 3.125 rather than 3.14. Many forget that 3.14 is not Pi’s true value; rather it is just a short hand version. The real number has over one million decimal places. According to livescience.com, Pi day became a national event back in 2009 through the House of Representative’s recognition.
Although Pi day is about the recognition of the Greek letter and number of 3.14, one student questioned why McIntosh does not celebrate the day through eating pies.
Sophomore Muskaan Boghani said, ” I think we should have pies on Pi day because what better way to represent the number Pi than to bake it in a pie.”
