Mr. Brian Ziegler and Mr. Nick Steward, arborists from Bartlett Tree Company, came to give the McIntosh Environmental Club a presentation on Dec. 10.
They passed out hats to the club members before the presentation began. Mr. Ziegler talked about the different types of diseases and insect pests that can be found in trees. Junior Adrienne Woodall said, “The information was very interesting, and the hats were a fun addition to presentation .”
Mr. Ziegler said that Bartlett Tree Company currently has three drones. The drones help them identify the condition of trees from great heights, which saves the arborists from the dangers of climbing. Mr. Ziegler said, “ I have not actually seen or had a chance to use a drone, but I hope to soon.”
Mr. Steward talked about the daily life of an arborist. He explained the different tools arborists use and why they are needed. He said sometimes an arborist can be on one job (taking down a tree, inspecting a tree) for over five hours.
At the end of the presentation Mr. Steward said one of his favorite things about being an arborist is the accomplishment he feels at the end of the day. Mr. Ziegler said one of his favorite things about being an arborist is the accomplishment or the feeling of knowing he did something good.
Sophomore Radhika Sharma said, “Overall, I thought the presentation was really interesting because the arborists were interactive. My favorite part was when they showed us videos of the drones.”
After this presentation the Environmental Club Officers said they cannot wait for Bartlett Tree Company to come give another presentation next year.
