The middle of September signifies the beginning of Spirit Week at McIntosh High School, the only week in which students dress in costumes and face paint to show their school spirit.

Junior Hannah Easter said, “Spirit week is a marvelous time to articulate the facets of dress style. It frees the soul, strengthens the mind, and portrays inner creativity and beauty.”  Other students have complained about the themes this year.  Junior Giselle Roman said, “I think this year’s spirit week was not as good as those of the past.”

Many students said that they were disappointed with the dropping of tacky twin day and character day because they wanted to invent creative costumes and outfits with friends.  Sophomore Catherine Avrill said, “What happened to tacky twin day and character day?” Tacky Twin Day and Character Day were replaced with Hero vs. Villains Day and “Rope the Mustangs” (Western) Day.

Monday was “Jersey Day.” Students were able to show spirit to their favorite sports team through wearing their jersey. Many students were excited to show support for their favorite teams, through face paint or uniform.  Sophomore Aiden Coleman said, “I really liked that they added Jersey Day this year.”

Tuesday was Hero vs. Villian Day. Instead of allowing a free range of costumes as Character Day does, Hero vs. Villains day put limitations on students’ outfits.

Wednesday was Decades Day, a cult favorite at McIntosh. Many students dressed as as hippies, or in bright-colored outfits from the 1980s.  Freshman Anna Feville said, “I liked Decades Day; it was the best.”

Thursday was “Rope a Mustang” (Western) Day. This slogan was the Homecoming theme this year since the Homecoming game was against the Morrow High School Mustangs. Many students wore their cowboy boots and hats.

Friday was Spirit Day, the day in which all students wore either white, green, black or senior togas to show spirit. Assistant Principal Ms. Stacey Smith said, “Friday has to be my favorite spirit day. I really enjoy the pep rally and seeing each grade dressed in their colors. Not only does it look cool, but it shows the students spirit and appreciation for not only their class, but also for McIntosh as a whole.”

Overall, the McIntosh population enjoyed this year’s Spirit Week. Freshman Audrey Kaszonyi said, “I would rate it a ten out of ten.”

Junior Mariah Barabe said,  “It was rad.”

Sophomore Vannah Zawacki said,  “It was very exciting.”
