Many students are involved in the Homecoming festivities, yet few people stop to think about the administrators’ opinions about the week.

Ms. Krystin Glover said, “I believe all parts of Homecoming are important [including] the parade, game, spirit days, powder puff game.” She said that every part Homecoming this year was “great,” and that she doesn’t think any part of the festivities should be removed.  Ms. Glover points out that the true purpose of Homecoming is not just to have fun. She said, “The purpose of Homecoming is to welcome back alumni of our school and [it is] a chance for our current students and staff to celebrate and show school spirit.” Ms. Glover said that she believes that Homecoming unifies the student body. She said, “Because there are so many activities involved, it is a chance for all students to be involved.  Students can participate in the parade or be a spectator. Students are selected for Homecoming court, Powder Puff football and cheer leading teams are created, attending the homecoming dance and the many aspects of the football game from the band performance, homecoming halftime or cheering on the Chiefs during the game.”  Ms. Glover said that she loves that Homecoming gives alumni an opportunity to return and celebrate with the teachers and staff and loves seeing the spirit shown by students during Homecoming week.

Mr. Dan Lakly and Mrs. Lisa Fine agree that the most important part of Homecoming is the festivities. Both also agree that every current Homecoming activity should remain next year. Mrs. Fine said, “I  wish we would add decorating the halls or doors as a Spirit Week activity. Mr. Lakly said that he thinks that Homecoming week is an excellent time for everyone to show school spirit. He said, “I  think it is the one time during the year when all students can have an active role in showing school spirit and pride.  You may not be on the football team or a cheerleader, but there are other activities where all students can take part.” He said that Homecoming is a special week for him because he is “a graduate of MHS (1987).”

Ms. Stacey Smith said that the purpose of Homecoming is “to engage and bring together the whole student body, faculty/staff, and community by participating in a week of spirited activities. There is an activity for everyone whether it be the dress up days, parade, Powder Puff game, pep rally, football game, and/or dance.” She said that she thinks that Homecoming raises school pride in students. She said, “Student pride is strong and comes together on Friday afternoon during the pep rally when you see the four classes represented by school colors.” It’s important to her, she said, because “Homecoming is a week of students coming together during a week packed with activities and festivities to promote positive attitudes, focus on our school pride, and welcome home alumni.”
