The MHS chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School Mathematics Honor Society, inducted its inaugural class of 45 students this past Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Last year, senior Sue Liang, who is now a freshman at MIT, began the chapter at McIntosh.

Inductees were invited to join the society over the past week via letters sent out in classrooms. The cards invited them and their parents to the induction ceremony. Dues of $20 for joining were paid to sponsor Mrs. Koroma.

At the induction, Mrs. Fine began the ceremony. Then, the executive board spoke about the society and about mathematics and later handed out certificates of membership to the students. Seniors Bryan Chen, Arin Stowman and David Oso and junior Ben Lashley make up the executive board. The teacher sponsors are Mrs. Linda Koroma and Dr. Martin Wesche.

After the induction, new members were treated to a cake decorated with the Mu Alpha Theta insignia, cookie cake, cookies, chips, nuts and refreshments.
