Top 5 things to do this summer in Georgia
Let’s see a show of hands of those students who have lived here more than two years and have seen less than 10 square miles of GA. If this wasn’t an article but a survey you could see more than 20 hand fly up. Why not? Can you even call yourself a ‘Georgia Peach’ if you haven’t left Peachtree City? No.
This summer pack you’re overnight duffel and check off these top five attractions in Georgia alone!
- Stone Mountain Park: Many students may already be familiar with the 3,200 acres of natural splendor, two golf courses, 15 miles of nature trails, treetop rope climbing and a Swiss cable car. But for those who are not it is just a 45 minute drive north of Peachtree City. Day trip anyone?
- Amicalola Falls: The tallest waterfall in the Southeastern United States it rushes downward 729 ft. Hikers can pick up a trail to follow the waterfall to the top or for those who aren’t as adventurous can view the splendor from Maple Restaurant (gastateparks.org). Only 97.7 miles from home [a 1 hour 45 min dirve] away!
- Jekyll Island: This is the place to escape the city and sink into Georgia’s luxury, including grandiose mansions, quaint streets lined with oak and magnolia trees, and beaches where you can spot pelicans and sandpipers dipping toward the shore. (traveltips.usatoday.com) If students are looking for the beach they have to plan ahead. A trip to Jekyll Island will take 4 hours and 30 min.
- Georgia Aquarium: If you haven’t been to the WORLDS largest aquarium yet, there is no hope left for you. This 10 million gallon ‘swimming pool’ houses everything from dolphins, to sharks, to albino alligators. Feeling adventurous? Take a dive with the Gentle Giants. Georgia Aquarium offers a swim with its whale sharks for only $234.95 plus tax. (Price includes admission to the Aquarium, AT&T Dolphin Tales show, 4D Theater, all equipment, the swim, certificate of participation, t-shirt and souvenir photo.)
- Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest and Helen: Two hours and forty-five minutes away this national forest offers a host of outdoor entertainment for all ages, including horseback riding, kayaking, hiking and fishing. This forest is not only a host to a large amount of wildlife but to the quaint little town of Helen. The German village replica contains candy-colored trims on the buildings and some cobblestone streets. Helen not only has gorgeous architecture but delicious chocolate and candy shops. Next time the family wants to leave technology behind offer to head out into the forest.
