Kalynn Henderson is a junior and one of the more involved students in McIntosh’s theater program. Kalynn discovered her passion for acting at a young age. When she was 7, she was cast as the lead in a “Cinderella” production. Since then, her love for theater has only grown. She said,  “Being on stage is a feeling I can’t describe. It’s an experience I could have over and over again and never get tired of it. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Despite her love of being on-stage, Kalynn has no intention to act in film. She said, “I prefer stage. There is more audience interaction. I plan on going to college for musical theater so I do hope professional acting is in my future.”

On top of acting in McIntosh’s productions of “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Meat Gone Bad,” Kalynn has also done stage crew for “Wit” and “Chicago.” Kalynn was responsible for creating the pallor on Micala McQueston’s face when she played Vivian Bearing in the one act play, “Wit.” She also came up with the makeup design for the dancers in this year’s production of Chicago.

Kalynn has been in many plays and musicals over the years, but she said her best experience so  far was participating in last summer’s “Les Miserables” production. She said, “ It was the best cast I’d ever been in. Everyone there was just incredible, and so were my assistant directors. To do a musical that powerful with such amazing people, you can’t help but love it.”

Her thespian family is one of her favorite aspects of being involved with the McIntosh theater department. She said,“I love them. We have problems just like everyone else, but at the end of the day there isn’t a thing I wouldn’t do for them.”

Kalynn encourages underclassmen to join the theater program. She said, “You can always learn in theater, so with each show I do. I not only learn about theater, but I learn things about myself and others.”
