Sponsored by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, the First Annual High School Video Contest, open to ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students in Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale counties, will feature this year’s topic, FOG Clogs.

To enter, students will create a 30 to 60 second public service announcement video about FOG Clogs. The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District website says, “Many folks don’t realize that fats, oils, and grease (FOG) that make it down kitchen sinks can wreak havoc on residential and municipal sewer pipes causing sewage to back up into homes and out of manholes into nearby rivers and streams. The sewage overflows which can occur from these blockages result in: damage to private property, public health issues and pollute nearby waterways.”

Videos will be judged based on the incorporation of the FOG Clogs message, the composition of the video, the entertainment value, the accuracy of the information and creativity.

The first place winner(s) gets $1,500, the second place winner(s) gets $1,000 and the third place winner(s) gets $500. The price money will be split 50 percent with the individual or team and his/their school.

Additionally, winning videos will air on the Metro Water District website and partner websites.

The deadline to submit videos is February 28, 2014; the winners will be notified by March 7, 2014 and then be presented with an award at the 2014 Water Drop Dash Festival on March 15, 2014 in Roswell.
