Take note, fellow MHS students- we have a car designer in our midst.
Senior Lucas Sein enjoys doing artistic things, including creating his own music and designing cars. Earlier this year, Lucas applied to the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, where he plans to study car design. CCS is a reputed university that allows students to study a wide range of creative fields, from advertising and transportation design to film and video game development. CCS accepted Lucas’ application, and Lucas will be attending this fall. Also, since CCS appreciates original, creative work, Lucas included a portfolio containing several of his designs for their consideration.
CCS, in response, has awarded Lucas a scholarship of $44,000 based solely on his car designs.
“I was really surprised when I found out about this,” Lucas said. “I just sent the portfolio as part of my application; I only thought it would help me get accepted. Then I got my acceptance letter- which was great in and of itself- but I noticed there was another letter, too. This letter informed me that CCS will be giving me a scholarship because they like my car designs. It took me a second to believe what I was reading, but once I did… it really made me happy,” Lucas said.
This is basically CCS’ way of telling Lucas he has incredible talent. To be awarded a scholarship- and a substantial one, no less- based on nothing except car designs is a truly remarkable feat. And CCS is a veritable gravity well for talented people, so for Lucas to be chosen for such a scholarship speaks volumes about his future in the automobile industry.
“I’ve always wanted to be a car designer,” Lucas said. “I started drawing cars when I was 3, and I’ve enjoyed doing so ever since. I started using a professional design program to make car models about three years ago. It takes me on average about 15 cumulative hours to create each design, which sounds like a lot, but I love it. Car design is my passion, and it’s really cool that it’s starting to pay off even though I’m still a senior in high school,” Lucas said.
One of the most renowned aspects of CCS is that the college provides an incredibly accessible pathway into the professional industry of each field that is taught there. The university has a constantly growing list of alumni who have been successful in their fields and who help current CCS students make their way into the professional world. So who knows- years from now, we may be buying and driving cars designed and produced by Sein Automotive. And let’s hope so- Lucas has some pretty unique designs that I, for one, would love to drive around.
