Last season, the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team finished their season with an overall record of 8-9 and a national ranking of 1,875 in the country.

Head coach Derek Smith believes the team had a successful spring 2024-2025 season.

“I think we had a pretty solid, successful last season, we had the senior heavy course,” Smith said.

To kickoff the season, they had their first game against Dutchtown High School with a winning score of 20-0 on Feb. 12. They lost their next game against Chamblee on Feb. 24 with a final score of 5-19.

Coach Smith shared his thoughts on the current season so far.

“We’ve beaten the teams we’re supposed to and we’ve lost to the teams we’re supposed to. I haven’t been surprised at either side of the coin when it comes to that,” said Smith.

“This year, 80-90% of our team is either sophomore or freshman, we’re starting six freshmen on the varsity level. They’re very exciting players, but they’re young and not experienced at the varsity level right now,” Smith said.

The team is young overall with it mostly being freshman and sophomores, many not being on a varsity lacrosse team before.

Because the team is young, there may be a few bumps along the road.

“We’re gonna take a few lumps in our schedule and have some growing pains, but it’s exciting watching them, knowing that they’re gonna have a very bright future,” said Smith.

According to Coach Smith, the team still needs to work on growing into the sport .

“When you’re young, you don’t have that grit or that physical stuff yet, because you just haven’t grown into it. So we just got to get a little tougher, get a little bit more grit,” Smith said

The seniors are guiding the younger players as they go into the season.

“I’m watching the group every day that the young guys get better at what they do, and the couple seniors that we have are doing a good job leading those young kids,” said Smith.

The Varsity Boys play next on April 14 against Newnan at . Tickets can be purchased at Gofan.co
