Olivia Dean began creating music in 2018 with her debut single “Reason to Stay.” Since then, she’s released two studio albums, five extended-plays and 28 singles. On Nov. 7, she was nominated for the Grammy’s Best New Artist category. She’s created a lot of music over the years, and it’s clear that she values quality and quantity.
When Olivia Dean began opening for the Europe leg of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet Tour” she began to rise to fame. Her song “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” from her second studio album “The Art of Loving” blew up on TikTok with over 400,000 videos using the song.
When I first listened to her second studio album “The Art of Loving” I immediately loved it. It felt very classy and calming. I really love how it can be played as background music but it can also work as music to vibe along to. Her voice is very smooth and easy to listen to which makes her music even better.
My favorite song from the album is “Close Up.” It starts off slow, and becomes more upbeat the more you listen to it. The lyrics are very clever, such as from her song “A Couple Minutes,” when she says, “Love’s never wasted when it’s shared,” I believe isn’t seen a lot in music anymore. It’s very refreshing to see artists begin to prioritize lyricism again.
Another one of my favorites is one of her popular ones “So Easy (To Fall In Love).” It’s very upbeat and I can see why it’s popular. It’s easy to listen to, and the lyrics give you a sense of confidence.
I also love the way she presents herself. When I see videos of her performing, she looks very classy and clean. Her style suits her a lot and she always looks very happy while performing. She’s usually seen wearing long dresses with her hair blown out which suit her very well. You can tell that she enjoys making her music and performing it rather than doing it for the money.
I think that in the future, Dean will become a very big artist. People on social media have already started praising her for her class. I’m very excited to see where this fame will take her.
