Jujutsu Kaisen” took the world by storm last fall. With the rise in popularity of anime, Jujutsu Kaisen became one of the most popular shows in 2021, 2nd only to “Attack on Titan”. He then goes to Jujutsu Tech, where he must find and eat all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers before he is executed.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s rise to popularity came in part due to the incredible animation and advertisement done by MAPPA studio, and the rise in popularity of anime in general. Freshman Ajibola batiste says, “I like My Hero, Jojo, and One Piece” and junior Mikela Zuniga says “Last year I watched Naruto, Haikyuu, Demon Slayer, and Attack on titan.” Whith shows like this becoming part of pop culture, It’s no surprise that Jujutsu Kaisen became big.

Even before the first episode came out on Oct. 3, 2020, people were already talking about the previews released by MAPPA on social media sites like TikTok, Twitter and Instagram. So when the movie got announced, fans were ready to hype up anything related to the project.

The first movie poster was posted along with the release date on July 13, 2021. The first teaser trailer was released on July 29, which contained key visuals for the movie. The movie will be a prequel for the main series, adapting the prequel book “Jujutsu Kaisen volume 0”. The movie will give us more of a backstory on the 2nd years, Maki, Panda and Inumaki, as well as fan favourite Gojo Satarou.

The story will follow another character, Yuta Okkotsu. Yuta is a highschool boy who is being haunted by the curse spirit of his childhood friend Rika. Because of his unique circumstances, he is taken in by Gojo Satoru into Jujutsu tech. Here he becomes a sorcerer that combats curses, where he learns to combat the spirit that haunts him.

MAPPA will return to animate the movie and Toho will be handling the distribution. As of now only the voice actor of Yuta is known. He will be voiced by Megumi Ogata, best known for her role as Shinji Ikari from “Evangelion”.

Although the Japan release is already confirmed, the international release is unknown. But following the trends of previous anime movies like “Demon Slayer”, it may have it’s international release a few months after its Japan premiere.
