The Advanced Drama Department performed the play “Booby Trap,” directed by drama teacher Ken Buswell on Feb 28 and raised a total of $500 for the organization Healing 4 Heroes. Before the play started, Officer Judy and his dog, gave a speech and answered questions about the organization, in which connects wounded veterans with service dogs. Students and adults came to see the free show, in which a donation bucket for the organization was accessible.

The initial scene began with “Sargent Galen,” a soldier played by senior Will Fincher heard a sudden “click” as he was sat on a log. If the soldier were to get up, he would set off a bomb, resulting in his death. The following scenes, played by the rest of the class, portrayed flashbacks and flashforwards of Pete’s memories and potential scenarios of his wife and child. As well as the scenes that foreshadow what he would miss if he were to die. Pete’s fellow soldiers attempt to get him out of his unfortunate predicament, but were unsuccessful. “My character, Captain Gruss, was really fun to play because he was aggressive with the lieutenant but empathetic to the sergeant on the tree.” junior Hayden Tatum said. “I got to show two sides of him which was fun to play around with.”

The play came to an end with Emma Skaggs singing a solo, while people from Pete’s life come together to mourn his death. “The song I sang to close out is called “Come Back” from the musical ‘Dogfight.’” senior Emma Skaggs said. “It was extremely moving to hear audience members sniffling and crying a bit. It’s crazy how a song can hit different people in different ways.
