Thespian Society inducts new members

The newest inductees into the MHS Thespian Society.

Every year the Thespian Society chooses one week out of the school year to introduce new actors to the Thespian family. Each Thespian chooses a new person to be introduced and then they become their “sibling.” The sibling will mentor and help the new inductee. Once that new inductee is chosen, the next year they will become a sibling and help the Thespian Society grow.

To become a thespian for McIntosh, ten points are needed to be eligible to be an inductee. Points are given by being in, helping with, and being involved in a play or production. Freshmen must have five points from the summer before to enter the society. Once entered, a thespian is in for the remainder of their high school career.

“One reason I love being a part of the thespian society because we go to ThesCon (the annual Georgia Thespian Conference) which is very fun and exciting and I love to sing and act,” says junior Ann-Charlotte Langet about why being in the thespian society means so much to her. “I was inducted by Katherine Mitchell and Abby McMichen who are both seniors and my Thespian siblings.”

The society has been a tradition for almost a century. The International Thespian Society has approximately 2.3 million in-theatre students inducted since 1929. McIntosh is a chapter along with chapters everywhere from China to Canada. The EdTA, Educational Theatre Association, has been honoring and supporting the development and growth of theatre students and adults as well as helping them find themselves through theatre performance.
