The students in Mr. Abel’s debate class recently participated in a mock presidential debate where four of the students in the class were chosen to represent the views of the four presidential candidates. Each student took on the persona of a presidential candidate and answered questions in a way that reflected the views of their candidate. The students chosen to represent the candidates were senior Connor Whittle (Jill Stein), sophomore Katie Austensen (Donald Trump), sophomore Kate Cullen (Hillary Clinton) and junior Preston Pitts (Gary Johnson). Debate teacher Ward Abel said, “I thought that the ‘candidates’ were backed up by good research and performed very well. I believe it was an enlightening process for the students, and it certainly was for me as well.”
