Graphics arts teacher Ms. Lauren Bozone visited Chicago over the summer and came back with a challenging question for her students: What is beauty? The question comes from Mathew Hoffman’s “You are Beautiful” street art project.
Hoffman’s project began when he handed out stickers to his colleagues and friends with the simple statement “You are beautiful” stamped on the front. From there the project exploded into a worldwide movement, progressing from stickers to a small street art exhibit in Chicago that expressed different artist’s views on what beauty means or what is considered beautiful.
Students in Ms. Bozone’s class were asked to perform a similar task and express their own views visually on a sheet of blank paper, which held the simple caption: “You are Beautiful.” Students were allowed to use art supplies from home.
