Chorus makes all superiors at LGPE
Each year, choirs all across the state travel to Large Group Performance Evaluations or LGPE to be judged on two songs and one sight singing example. On March 5, McIntosh’s director Hannah Beth Potter also played a major part in organizing the event.
Bel Canto and Chiefs choirs performed on Monday, and Cantabile, Bella Voce and Choralettes performed on Wednesday.
Bel Canto performed “Jesu rex Admirabilis” and “I Attempt at Hearts Sickness.”
Chiefs performed “De Animals a Coming” and “Rise up, My Love, My Fair One.”
Choralettes performed “Hello Girls” and “Vere Languores Nostros.”
Bella Voce performed “Ave Maria” and “Heaven Bound Train.”
Cantabile performed “Afternoon on a Hill” and “With a Voice of Singing.”
This year, all choirs received ones which is the equivalent of superior and the highest rating possible. This is an incredibly difficult feat.
The senior women who have been in Cantabile two years have achieved all ones all four years at McIntosh and many have only received ones since middle school which is an amazing streak.
Ms. Potter also sent her choirs in extremely hard class levels. Classes are rated A, B, C, D and M. A is the hardest and M is for middle school level. Bella Voce and Cantabile went as class A, Choralettes as class B, and the rest as class C. Ms. Potter says she hopes to send another choir as class B next year. In preparation for continuing to better the choirs and demand the excellence shown at LGPE this year, she wants to keep choirs sight singing while they continue to prepare for Spring Gala.
Each year Ms. Potter demands more from her students and knows that the talented group will be able to meet her expectations. This year is no exception. Choirs are already hard at work for Spring Gala, and Cantabile is singing at Spivey Hall next week on April 1.
