February was a tame month for new music and new albums for the most part. After an extensive January which saw the release of albums from current music sensations like Justin Bieber and ASAP Rocky, the mood was toned down in order for the music-savvy to catch up on their favorite artists. February will see new music from Alternative Rock band Coheed and Cambria, Country singer Tim McGraw, and R&B artist Bilal among others.
“The Afterman: Descension” is Coheed and Cambria’s seventh studio album since their formation in 1995. This new album is considered the second part of a double album, the first half aptly titled “The Afterman: Ascension” which was released in October of last year. Only nine songs appear on this album, but it has received positive reviews scoring an impressive 73 on Metacritic. The song currently has one single, titled “Dark Side of Me,” which was released on January 14 this year, and “The Afterman: Descension” was released on February 5.
2013 marks the twentieth year of Tim McGraw’s career. However, “Two Lanes of Freedom,” his latest album released February 5, marks his end of his career with Curb Records. “Two Lanes of Freedom” was released under the fairly new recording company Big Machine Records. The album contains three singles in “Truck Yeah,” “One of Those Nights,” and “Highway Don’t Care,” the latter featuring fellow country sensation Taylor Swift.
Bilal, although not the most well known artist today, has received universal acclaim from music critics for his newest album, “A Love Surreal.” Released on February 26, the album, which features his single “Back to Love” along with 13 other songs, features music described as a mixture of soul, hip hop, and the occasional jazz. “A Love Surreal,” which Bilal states himself was aimed towards the female audience, will be sure to please listeners everywhere on its release.
