Assassin’s Creed III is the third game in the series to feature multiplayer. This may be hard to visualize, as the majority of single-player is planning and assassinating targets, rather than the all-out mayhem which is associated with online multiplayer. Despite this fact, the multiplayer of Creed III is quite entertaining, as well as challenging.
The Assassin’s Creed (AC) franchise has always been focused on telling a good story through a single-player campaign, yet the two previous AC games had a multiplayer mode which was slightly integrated into the plot of the franchise while still retaining the franchise’s most important values. The gameplay revolves entirely around tracking and assassinating randomly assigned targets (the other players) using the skills learned from single-player. The player earns a much higher score by eliminating targets discreetly rather than sprinting across the map like a mad bull. In fact, making a mad dash for a target may lead to the target’s successful escape; as soon as the player stops being discreet, the target is made aware of his pursuer and a chase sequence is triggered. If the target breaks the line of sight of his assailant for a small duration, then he has survived and the pursuer must hunt a different target.
Multiplayer can be very exciting, as it is a beautiful blend of action-packed free-running and high-stakes strategy. Although the game provides the approximate location of a target, it is up to the player to discern who the target is, as the map is filled with plenty of look-alike AIs. In addition, while a player is hunting a target, there is always at least one other assassin hunting for the player. Thus, one must find his prey while watching his own back as well.
The multiplayer mode of ACIII is some of the best multiplayer I’ve ever experienced. With such unique action and intelligence involved, the multiplayer of AC has understandably won multiple awards for “Best Multiplayer.” This further proves just how incredible a video-game developer Ubisoft is.
If you’re an AC fan, check out www.abstergo.org and take a look around. It’s a really ool website, but be sure to go there after you beat ACIII, as there are some plot spoilers.
