Hogwarts: not just for witches and wizards
Fans of the “Harry Potter” series know of the fictional school named Hogwarts — a boarding school for witches and wizards. However, thanks to a group of “Potterheads,” the Hogwarts experience is now brought to anyone with access to a computer.
“Hogwarts is Here’ is the online course version of J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is in no way affiliated with J.K. Rowling or Warner Bros.
Keith Cardin, the 24-year-old Web developer of the website, and multiple volunteers run the online courses. First year courses offered range from Astronomy to Potions.
Fans can earn galleons to go shopping in Diagon Alley. By completing assignments, Hogwarts students will receive money and privileges, like going to Hogsmeade.
With a little over 24,000 members already, “Hogwarts is Here” will be running a little slow for now. This is because the server (the provider of the Internet information) is over-populated. HiH staff tells fans not to worry. A spokesperson said, “We’re bringing in some outside help to professionally configure our servers so they consistently remain online, fast and reliable.”
Fans can join the website at http://hogwartsishere.com/ and can also follow the founders on twitter @HiHFans .
