McIntosh boys and girls soccer are both headed to the 5A State Championship. This will be Coach Bunky Colvin’s 11 appearance in the State Championship on the boy’s side. On the girl’s side, this game will make their 15 appearance in the State Championship final.

The games will be played this Saturday, May 18 on the Mercer University’s Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia. The double-header will begin with the girls taking on Whitewater HIgh School and will be followed by the boys team taking on Starr’s Mill High School.

“It very exciting to see all Fayette County teams in the final. It lets the rest of the state know that we run the table,” said Goalkeeper Coach Jon Briglevich.

“I love the fact that we get to play cross town rivals in the State Championship. It’s going to add to the environment. It also allows us to have some redemption after we lost to Starr’s Mill at home earlier in the season,” said boy’s captain Erik Malasek.

The girls will also get a chance at redemption as they lost in the State Championship to Whitewater last year in penalty kicks.

“It is like a fairy tale ending,” said junior Skylar Dzenis. “We lost to them (Whitewater) last year and we’re ready to compete to avenge ourselves.”

This is the second year in a row that both boys and girls McIntosh Varsity teams have made it to the 5A State Championship.
