After struggling to draw big crowds in previous seasons, the Georgia Tech basketball team has begun to rebuild its program. After a season with 19 wins and 15 losses, the team missed out on the NCAA tournament but still got a chance to extend their season in the NIT (National Invitation Tournament).

After defeating Indiana at home on March 14, the Yellow Jackets took on Belmont on March 19 in front of a home crowd of over 7,000 fans. Part of the excitement has come from the new coach. Josh Pastner offered to buy every student ticket for both games in the tournament. Additionally, he bought 150 dozen Krispey Kreme donuts for the fans in attendance on Sunday to watch Tech advance with a 71-57 win.

Senior DeLayne Rotolo said, “I wish a team from Georgia had made the NCAA tournament, but since they didn’t, it’s pretty exciting to see that Tech is doing so well. I hope they can at least win the NIT because a lot of fans around here would be happy to see them get that far.”
