The Olympic Games in Rio rounded up with the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 21. After being in five Olympics, Michael Phelps (31) announced his retirement. Michael Phelps finished his career with a total of 23 gold medals out of 28 medals, according to usatoday.com.

Freshman Nick Schelkopf said, “He[Phelps] had one of the most successful careers in any sport, and his 28 Olympic medals show his success.”

Freshman Truitt Thompson said, “Because of him starting at a young age, he is very experienced and he works hard before and during the time to compete.”

Michael Phelps’ last race was the 4 x 100 meter relay final where he and three other teammates won gold. Phelps was assisted on the relay by teammates Ryan Held, Nathan Adrian, and Caeleb Dressel.
