Girls varsity soccer team moves on to the state finals

With the win against Northgate, the Lady Chiefs will move on to the state championship on Sat., May 14.

The girls varsity soccer team took on Northgate High School at home for the state semifinals on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 p.m.

The first goal of the game came with 14 minutes left in the first half. Senior Caroline Laux scored to give the Lady Chiefs a 1-0 lead towards the end of the first half of the state semifinals. Senior Veronica Cappas scored the second goal of the first half with a little under 10 minutes to play. The Lady Chiefs were leading at halftime 2-0. At halftime, captain senior Abby Ott said, “All I want to say is this game is not over yet. Having a 2-0 lead is very dangerous, and the next goal is crucial.”

After halftime, senior Caroline Laux scored again to give the Lady Chiefs a 3-0 lead with a little over 30 minutes to go in the state semifinals. Two minutes later, junior Taylor Malasek scored the final goal of the game, bringing the score to 4-0 against the Lady Vikings in the state semifinals.

The state finals will be held on Sat., May 14, at Mercer University.
