President Trump is trying to pass new legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare.

The American Health Care Act has become one of the most controversial topics of President Donald Trump’s first term in office. With the goal of repealing and replacing Obamacare, the House passed the American Health Care Act on Thursday, May 4. Now, the issue of healthcare in America is being brought to the attention of the Senate where they will have the opportunity to discuss and vote on the new bill.

Sophomore Owen Henahan said, “At this time, I believe that it’s too early to tell how the American Health Care Act will affect current Obamacare users or even what the final act will look like. The Senate plans to write their own version and vote on that, so it’s likely that the final will be some amalgamation of the two. The controversy over the act among conservative lawmakers leads me to believe that there will probably be more changes and edits to the structure of the act before it is truly put into effect.”

Senior Will Vaughn said, “The healthcare system needs reform, but simply repealing and replacing Obamacare with a similar system will not solve the issues that need to be addressed.”
