Target promotes body shaming
Target has recently come under fire for their poorly photoshopped swimsuit picture featuring a painfully thin model with a fake thigh gap and toothpick like arms. Through this media girls are being taught that the only way they can be beautiful is if they have no fat on their body, are absolutely hairless, and wear just enough makeup to appear naturally flawless. Pictures like this are contributing to the rising number of eating disorders in girls in the country. These beauty standards are dangerous and are part of why so many young girls are unhappy with their body. Senior Lauren Eydam says ” I can’t believe the Target ad. It’s promoting the sick idea that all girls have to look a certain way to be beautiful. It’s not fair to us and it’s disgusting.” It’s about time the clothing and advertising industry changes and embraces the idea that all women are beautiful no matter their pant size, and starts using real sized models.
