Freshman biology classes dissected worms during their unit about vertebrates and invertebrates on April 14.

During the lab, the students split up into groups of four, and all got their individual worms to dissect. The students had to dissect these worms in certain ways to discover the different biological tissues and organs of the worm, which they later had to write about. For some students, it was a fun time to get to learn about the creatures, but for others it was a time to try to avoid touching the worms even with their gloves on.

Freshman Luke Jones said, “Doing this dissection was very interesting because we got to see all of the different body parts and features of this species, and we also got to see how all of the body parts are compacted into a tiny animal.”

Students also searched hard for the brain, as the groups that found it earned extra credit.
