Channing Tatum, the star of hit movies including “21st Jump Street” and its sequel “22nd Jump Street,” has been confirmed to join the X-Men cast, and will play as the card-tossing Cajun, Gambit (who was previously portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in the 2009 film, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”).
According to “LA Times,” “X-Men: Days of Future’s Past” producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed that Tatum will be playing the character in future films during the premiere of “Future’s Past” in London. Donner said to Total Film on the red carpet, “He’s a rogue, Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau [Gambit]. And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a real good heart … I think he’ll be great for Gambit.”

“And he’s a Southerner too …” She adds, “He understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”

During the MTV Awards back in April, Tatum said that he’d already met with Donner and talked about how he was interested in playing the character. “My dad’s from New Orleans, and I’d like to do the Cajun accent,”  he said.

“I’m excited! I really love him,” said sophomore Erika Kimura.

It is unknown whether or not Gambit will soon appear in more ensemble “X-Men” movies or just a  standalone picture.
